We have one standard. You can reach it.
I find this a hard day to run because of the senior day celebration. I understand the impact of emotion. It is a great lesson because emotion that goes uncontrolled can be lethal in running. We want to run with purpose and passion. It is a dangerous thing to run while ‘emotional’ though. I know personally the negative impact it can have. It’s happened to me and I’ve seen it happen in athletes over the years. Learning how to manage our thoughts will allow us to control our emotions. It’s a valuable skill/ability to have and will help in athletics and LIFE.
The emotional part of running and racing can be challenging. Emotions allowed to run amok will ruin a runner. Managing our thoughts is a skill that can be developed. The mental part of competition is crucial. No matter how fit you are physically, if you’re not ‘in control’ mentally, you will not perform to the best of your abilities.
