This was a really good race for us. I think we ran very well because we were aggressive. Being assertive in the first mile gives us a chance for personal bests. The Varsity gap wasn’t bad, but I know we will cut that in half in the weeks to come. It is impressive that the Nicks were running just their second real cross country races. Bennett and Whitt ran really good races up front for us and that is no easy task. How ‘bout Horton running 3rd for us and breaking 19? Giddy up.
I like the way the JV guys got after it. As you train and get in better shape the times will drop. Take each race and learn from it. Compete to the best of your abilities by running smart. There are times in a race to run easy and times to run hard. Every 5k offers a learning experience that will make you better.
I encourage everybody to take responsibility for their own progress by running outside of practice and completing rigorous core activities on a daily basis at home. Our development as a program is dependent on your efforts outside of practice. Redefine yourself as an athlete and strive to achieve a higher training standard. You can run more mileage. You can run faster. We are relying on you to try each day to be fitter, faster and stronger.
